Learn to Read of Northwest Florida, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization dedicated to helping functionally illiterate adults improve their lives.

Our mission is to ensure that no adult members of society be denied opportunities and privileges because they cannot read and write. We will teach them.

We have served Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties since 1984; and we are the local affiliate of ProLiteracy Worldwide, an international literacy organization.

We are the only provider of free, one-on-one adult literacy instruction in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, Florida.

Our Program

  • We provide free, one-on-one instruction to adults (aged 18 and above) in basic literacy and English for speakers of other languages.
  • We train volunteer literacy tutors.  No experience necessary. Anyone can do it.
  • We provide continuing education to tutors.
  • We increase public awareness of literacy by participating in community events.
